smokeyourgreentea-deactivated20 asked: Hi, I love your work ♥ I was wondering. Before you became super popular, did you ever feel like your drawing style wasn't good enough for you? I am having that problem as of right now and it hinders me from finishing anything. Did you experiment with styles mixed with your own to help you ? I am sorry if i ask too many questions. Thank you for reading. You are one of my inspirations to draw♥♥
thanks! there have been times where i felt that way…usually it was because i was focusing too much on my style being the driving force behind my work, and letting more important drawing basics take a backseat. so, i’d try to draw something, and get so caught up in trying to force it into my limiting style that i’d give up and feel like i just couldn’t draw certain subjects.
i would say that if something similar is happening to you, don’t worry so much about keeping your style intact for now. draw lots of different things outside your comfort zone, in more ways than you’re currently used to — realism, perhaps? try other styles, exaggerate certain elements, draw things more detailed, try to see how much you can simplify them while keeping them recognizeable…etc. play around with everything and don’t be afraid to use reference!
try to draw inspiration from a wider variety of sources too, if you can. i found that as i came to appreciate more than shiny animu art, my own work began to really grow and mature, and i started having more fun with it.
i hope this helps you out a little! best of luck
