littledeerfaline asked: sorry, my last message bugged out on my phone :( I wanted to say i really enjoyed your fashion challenge images and it seems like you are pretty stylin'! would you ever consider an 'outfit of the day' kind of thing?

ahh thank you! sure, i could do this (if you guys wouldn’t mind a million more self-portraits…) image

celestial-fox asked: Hi, Bara! I've been following your work since I was seven or eight years old (and now I'm in college! Ahhhhh!), and it's so beautiful. I love your art and your personal style. I have a really random question, though: I love you hair, but I was wondering how you get it so white! Is it damaged at all?

thank you! oh god, time flies doesn’t it? i’m happy to hear that my work hasn’t become boring yet!

my hair…has been a ton of work, haha. i use powder bleach and 30 vol developer, and purple shampoo to gradually tone it to a more neutral platinum/white, rather than a yellowish blonde (which saves me from trying to bleach every last atom of pigment out of my hair.)

as for damage, my hair was only slightly damaged at first because i kept it very short; it never had time to get badly fried before i trimmed it all off again. but last fall, i decided i wanted to grow my hair back out a bit, and i quickly developed more problems with it than i’ve ever had in my life…my old cheap/minimal hair care routine really wasn’t cutting it and i wound up with the nasty, dreaded straw hair. no matter how much i conditioned it and how gently i tried to blowdry it (which was a necessity at the time as my hair just WOULD NOT air dry anymore!) it still hated me. then i started using living proof’s restore products, and holy shit did they make a difference. i sound like an ad, but really, my hair went from a brittle bird’s nest to soft and silky in about 2 weeks. the drawback is that it’s all very pricey for the amount you get :I but i like this color a lot and knew it was going to be a money sink, going into it. the other hair product i use is aussie’s leave-in conditioner, and i’m currently very happy with my hair, i just wish it would grow faster!!

if you decide to go for white hair yourself, i wish you the best of luck! hopefully you won’t have to experience the same disasters i did (´Д`;)

aore asked: Hey Bara! I have a random, non-art related question for you! I am also half-asian, half-euro (Japanese + everything else in Europe) and wondered if you practiced any cultural traditions in your home or even speak a bit of Korean or German? Just curious! :D

hell yeah, mutt bro fist!!

sadly, i’m pretty whitewashed. we’ve never been terribly close to my mom’s side of the family (she’s the korean one) and i don’t think she’s ever been huge on traditions, so the most exposure i usually got as a child was shopping at some of the korean stores around atlanta. likewise, my father’s family was pretty americanized from what i could tell, so…i guess culturally i’m actually pretty boring! haha. i wish i knew korean — i have a basic idea of how hangul works but i’ve yet to really commit any of it to memory…and i love the way german sounds. so…assertive. someday i want to learn how to curse in it, if nothing else.

at the very least, i’ve taught myself how to make a few simple korean dishes :] and i’ve baked lebkuchen before, and would love to make more german treats. i guess food is the easiest language for me…

raefuun asked: do you have a fashiolista account, or an account on a similar site? your style is so adorable!

i don’t :0 but thank you!!

darkklade asked: Are you learning Korean? I noticed the book on your latest post and I thought it looked educational.

ah, it’s a general book on korea’s history, arts, etc. (it’s this one, if you were curious) i do want to learn korean eventually though, i feel so lame that i’m half korean and i know more spanish and japanese than i do korean.. :| (not that i’m any good at those two languages either, but come on, still!)
